How to set up shipping on Square

Square makes it easy to set up shipping, and it only takes a few simple steps. There are some details you’ll need to iron out, including the locations you want to ship orders to and how much to charge per delivery. Here is a step-by-step guide on how to set up shipping on Square. 

Step 1: Determine where you’re shipping from

The first step is to confirm your shipping address, which will determine the shipping rates and carriers available in your area. If you’re shipping from a different location than your physical location or office, you’ll want to make sure you change the address based on where you store your inventory. To confirm your shipping address, follow these steps: 

  1. Visit the Online Overview page.
  2. Select ‘Settings’ and then ‘Shipping.’
  3. Confirm the address you’re going to ship from by clicking ‘Edit Address’ and pushing ‘Save.’

Step 2: Select your shipping regions

After you confirm your store’s shipping address, your shipping region is automatically determined. But you can make changes by adding additional regions that your business ships to by following these steps: 

  1. Visit the ‘Online Overview’ page.
  2. Select ‘Settings’ and then ‘Shipping.’
  3. Select ‘Add Region.’
  4. Search for a specific location by typing it, or select one from the drop-down bar.
  5. To exclude a specific area, uncheck it from the list. For example, uncheck ‘California’ to exclude it from shipping regions.

Step 3: Determine how to calculate shipping charges

There are several shipping options for you to choose from. For instance, flat rate offers a fixed price for shipping and charges per item or per order. Other options include real-time rates (i.e., where the shipping is calculated based weight and destination at checkout), free shipping, order weight, order total, and item quantity.

What you choose to charge for shipping will be based on what you sell, for how much, and where your customers are located. To set up different shipping options and calculate shipping charges, follow these steps:

  1. Visit the ‘Online Overview’ page.
  2. Select ‘Settings’ and then ‘Shipping.’
  3. Choose a region to ship to.
  4. Press ‘Show Additional Shipping Rates’ to see more options.

Once you choose the shipping options, some additional steps may be required. For instance, if you choose weight-based shipping, you’ll need to specify the weight of every item you sell before you add rates.
