Protective masks are the main priority, but gowns and gloves are also being produced to help meet needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-national-council-of-textile-organizations-ncto\">The National Council of Textile Organizations (NCTO)<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncto.org\/coalition-of-iconic-american-apparel-brands-textile-companies-heeds-call-of-nation-to-produce-medical-face-masks\/\">NCTO<\/a> announced a coalition of iconic American apparel brands and textile companies have come together to fast-track the manufacturing of medical face masks to help hospitals, health care workers, and patients battling the spread of the COVID-19 disease. Parkdale Inc. \u2013 the largest yarn spinner in the US \u2014helped lead the effort to build the coalition with Hanesbrands, Fruit of the Loom and six other companies. While these are competitors in the marketplace, they are expected to produce up to 10 million face masks per week once ramped up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-lowe-s\">Lowe\u2019s<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/newsroom.lowes.com\/news-releases\/lowescommits25millionupdatesoperationsinresponsetocovid-19\/\">Lowe\u2019s<\/a> is donating $10 million for essential protective products for medical professionals on the frontlines of the fight against the coronavirus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-gap\">Gap<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.my\/gap-to-make-masks-healthcare-workers-coronavirus-2020-3\">Gap<\/a> will use its factory resources to make personal protective equipment including face masks, gowns, and scrubs for healthcare workers on the front lines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-canada-goose\">Canada Goose<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/finance.yahoo.com\/news\/canada-goose-to-start-producing-medical-gowns-for-hospitals-154508236.html\">Canada Goose<\/a> will reopen two of its manufacturing facilities and begin producing medical scrubs and patient gowns to help in the fight against COVID-19. The initial goal is to produce 10,000 units and will be donated to local Canadian hospitals at no cost.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-chanel\">Chanel<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite closing production sites in France, Italy and Switzerland due to coronavirus, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessoffashion.com\/articles\/news-analysis\/chanel-to-produce-surgical-masks-for-france\">Chanel<\/a> said they would start manufacturing surgical masks upon approval of prototypes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-reformation\">Reformation<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The City of L.A. and Mayor Eric Garcetti announced the launch of L.A. Protects, a partnership with <a href=\"https:\/\/fashionista.com\/2020\/03\/reformation-la-protects-mask-production-coronavirus\">Reformation<\/a> to produce non-medical masks using its sewing factories and fabrics. Reformation is also recruiting other L.A. garment and apparel manufacturers to supply materials and support manufacturing protective equipment at scale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-open-innovation-coalition\">The Open Innovation Coalition<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.morningbrew.com\/retail\/stories\/2020\/04\/13\/rothys-coordinating-retailers-ppe-production-efforts\">The Open Innovation Coalition<\/a>, founded by <a href=\"https:\/\/rothys.com\/blog\/sustainability\/articles\/how-were-supporting-our-community\">Rothy\u2019s<\/a> aims to unite like-minded brands and share resources to better support COVID-19 relief efforts as a collective group. They have open-sourced their mask-making knowledge with fellow manufacturers who are interested in producing similar items.
