The passage of the Food Safety Modernization Act (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/food\/guidance-regulation-food-and-dietary-supplements\/food-safety-modernization-act-fsma\">FSMA<\/a>) in 2011 introduced new standards for food storage, processing, and manufacturing for this wide range of products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Brands that sell highly regulated goods directly to consumers \u2014 especially packaged food products, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shipbob.com\/blog\/shipping-vitamins-supplements-ecommerce\/\">vitamins and dietary supplements<\/a>, beverages, medical products, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shipbob.com\/blog\/3pl-cosmetics-company\/\">cosmetics<\/a> \u2014 must make sure they use an FDA-certified warehouse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-is-an-fda-registered-warehouse\">What is an FDA registered warehouse?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>An FDA registered warehouse is a storage location, food facility, or fulfilment centre that is registered with the FDA to store food, dietary supplements, drugs (prescription\/medication), and other <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/industry\/import-basics\/regulated-products\">goods that are regulated by the FDA<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/consumers\/consumer-updates\/it-really-fda-approved\">FDA only approves certain products<\/a> (i.e., drugs, additives, etc.) and not companies, laboratories, buildings, or manufacturers, they do have the authority to inspect regulated facilities to verify that they comply with applicable good manufacturing practice regulations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-when-should-your-warehouse-be-fda-certified\">When should your warehouse be FDA certified?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Owners and operators of domestic or foreign food, drug, and most device facilities must register their facilities with the FDA, unless an exemption applies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In other words, having an FDA-certified warehouse is required if your ecommerce business sells anything from face creams and shampoos, to first aid kits and chocolate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-to-register-your-warehouse-with-the-fda\">How to register your warehouse with the FDA<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In order to become an FDA-certified warehouse, you must register your facilities with the FDA.
